Global Head of IT for Research at AstraZeneca
Dr. Amrik Mahal, recently awarded the British Empire Medal, has 25+ years’ experience working in the pharmaceutical sector, primarily in Research & Development. Having worked for AstraZeneca, Glaxo Wellcome, and Evotec, he is currently the Global Head of IT for Research at AstraZeneca, accountable for developing and driving the IT strategy, partnering with the R&D senior leaders and delivery of projects and services to discovery and development scientists. Amrik is covering a wide range of scientific applications and end user disciplines. He has a proven ability to successfully provide leadership of teams across multiple domains, internally and externally with academia and industry. Amrik will share the AstraZeneca Digitization Journey and the current and potential future role of Sapio.

Kevin Malabre is a Senior Scientist in the Process Development Team (Upstream) at OXB (Oxford Biomedica), where he has played a pivotal role since joining the company in June 2018. With extensive expertise in upstream process development, Kevin has been a driving force in the SAPIO project and OXB’s digital transformation initiatives. From the early stages of design and trial to full team implementation, Kevin has been instrumental in shaping the digitalization journey at OXB, contributing to more streamlined workflows and enhanced data management processes. His commitment to innovation and collaboration has helped the team adopt cutting-edge solutions, strengthening OXB’s position at the forefront of bioprocessing advancements.
Shane Kamil
Solution Lead Laboratory Informatics at Olink
Over the years Shane Kamil has built a strong foundation in molecular biology and psychology. Shane excels in digital transformation within the life sciences, focusing on solutions that enhance both user experience and operational efficiency. Shane has been instrumental in supporting Sapio to truly understand the Olink processes resulting in the recently established Sapio-Olink partnership. Shane is driven by a passion for fostering collaboration across teams and departments and has dedicated his career to implementing digital initiatives that streamline processes and improve business outcomes. Currently, as the IT Business Solution Lead at Olink, he leads IT projects, including a complex, multi-site, multi-regional enterprise LIMS implementation. Previously, in the role of LIMS System Engineer, he led a comprehensive pre-study to gather user requirements, optimize processes, evaluate LIMS vendors, and establish governance frameworks for agile project management.
Rajesh Kumar
Senior Director of Drug Discovery at Schrodinger
In 2022, Rajesh Kumar, Ph.D, joined Schrödinger as the Senior Director of Drug Discovery. Rajesh Kumar received his Ph.D in Physics/Biophysics from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He then joined as a postdoctoral fellow at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, NY, USA, specializing in protein chemistry and structural biology. He then joined the faculty of biochemistry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and focused on Structural genomics of proteins involved in the Immune function network. He then joined Biogen and contributed to small molecule drug discovery efforts in proteins involved in neurodegeneration. He joined Schrodinger in the fall of 2022 as a Sr. Director of Structural biology and has focused on building the lab infrastructure, including establishing a ELN system and contributing to small molecule drug discovery efforts on proteins involved in inflammation and oncology.
