Knowledge Management
Support your scientific researchers with relevant, supporting data where and when they need it most.

A Powerful Solution for Knowledge Management to Power Data-Driven Discovery
The process of discovery involves many elements, some of which are intangible and not well understood. Since making discoveries is fundamental to the biological sciences, every effort should be made to increase the likelihood of a breakthrough occurring.
Even though the discovery process may not be rote, it is clear that discovery is facilitated when relevant supporting data is available to researchers to aid them in the discovery process. Sapio Knowledge Management was created to provide just such a discovery platform.
Overcoming Organizational Knowledge Challenges
The current situation is that most companies have “silos of data” throughout their organizations. This can include spreadsheets, diverse databases, text documents, emails, public information resources, LIMS, ELNs, proprietary applications and more. Researchers themselves are often “silo’d” across campuses, states and/or countries and communicate through many different mechanisms such as email, chat, message boards, etc. The collection of all this data often represents a large portion of the knowledge of your organization. Somewhere in this data and information is the possibility of discovery—if it can be looked at collectively so that otherwise unconnected bits of information can be connected.
Represent Structured and Unstructured Knowledge
The silos of data, a.k.a. the knowledge of your organization, can be understood to be of two types: Structured and Unstructured. Structured data fits well into data records with data fields on them. An example is a Clinical Subject. This may have attributes such as “Gender”, “Age”, etc. This structure can be well defined and is well known by the organization defining this data type. Unstructured data, on the other hand, is like that in research papers, such as the sentence: “The results indicated that the BRCA2 N372H variant was significantly associated with an increased risk of overall cancer (dominant model: OR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.01-1.13; recessive model: OR = 1.12, 95% CI = 1.02-1.23).” Communications between people can also be categorized as unstructured.
These two broad classifications represent very different types of information, but each of them can contain key information that researchers will benefit from having access to. It is therefore imperative to integrate, organize and make easily accessible this diverse set of data.
We don’t just talk about configurability, we demonstrate each and every aspect of Sapio configuration so a clear comparison can be made with other solutions. We invite you to see for yourself by scheduling a demo for your organization.
Information + Data + Collaboration = Sapio Knowledge Management
Sapio addresses this need by providing a highly scalable application where all your structured and unstructured information can be stored. But it’s not enough to just collect this data, it needs to be organized in an intuitive way. Sapio represents the data hierarchically which is the most intuitive and easy to understand representation. Sapio lets you define how the hierarchies are represented instead of imposing a predefined structure. Just as important, once the data is in Sapio you can easily search both the structured data without knowledge of the underlying data architecture using our report builder and the unstructured data using “Google-Style” searching.
Integrated Collaboration for Scientific Knowledge Sharing
Knowledge is not just contained in data…it’s contained within dialogs and interactions as well. Sapio has intuitive and easy to use collaboration tools that enable conversations to occur on any item in the system such as clinical studies, projects, patients, etc. These interactions are also fully searchable via Google-style searching. You can also subscribe to other user’s comments and even to data records to get automatic updates in the Sapio Feed so you know when key information has been added, updated or commented on in the system.
Sapio Knowledge Management – Rapid Deployment
Each organization has their own repositories for their data and a way they want to organize this when it is aggregated into a KM solution. Sapio breaks new ground in how rapidly a system can be set-up and usable to meet your specific needs. A system can easily be set-up in days, and with our built in importers and easy manual data entry you, can begin populating data immediately with zero programming. With our robust API you can also populate data automatically via REST or Java API.
